We have been going to The Westside for many years. We used to live in Concord and would drive there for breakfast. We currently are living in Emeryville and thought that we would go there and may it our every weekend spot. In the past we loved this place. But about four months ago something changed. Before the service was good and now it's terrible. I've tried to stay a loyal customer but I found that I can no longer eat there. Again the service has gone way down. The waitresses don't seem to be able the handle the amount of business they the currently have. I've noticed that their not as busy as they used to be. We won't be going back. We tried to stay good customers but again over the last for months we find ourselves leaving very unhappy. The current employees seem as if they don't care about service or the quality of the food. We're sad to be leaving:(

Great for vegans
This place is a little jewel since being a vegan, it is difficult to find a place that caters to a vegan brunch. Of course there is always Millenium in SF, but Westside is low key and very good. Their tofu scrambles are excellent (love the tofu rancheros!) and they serve soy milk with the coffee drinks on request. You also can't go wrong with the home fries, toast, and nice selection of marmalades.

Although noisy and kinda rude, the Westside has the best damned breakfasts anywhere. You might have a wait, but it's worth it. Also, the chairs are hard and uncomfortable, and the wait staff can be a little on the rude side...but, hey, it's Berkeley.

The baked goods are good here, the coffee is not, but the breakfasts are very good. This is also one of the few places left in the East Bay where you can still get real bagels. The bagels are quite good. A Chronicle review of this place said that although the coffee drinks weren't that impressive, the chai was excellent. Personally, I'm partial to their pancakes and their French toast. A lot of this stuff is heavy on the eggs, so this might not be the greatest place for vegans. Their food is yummy and their service prompt. I recommend it.
