I've been coming to Umezono since 1994...13 years. I was trying to hold this review for a long time just to give them chance to improve. It's not any better and get worse eveytime till last night I decided not to come to UMEZONO anymore.
I have to drive 45 mins to get there from Conyers. The restuarant hour said Friday night will close at 10.30pm. We step in the door at 9.30pm, there is a waitress running toward us said "WE ARE CLOSED". I said the sign said 10.30, she said right..but we already had the last order in. Anybody understand the way it work, please explain. I don't understand it and never have experienced problem like this before. How could they stay in business? Most of the restuarant if they said close at 10, means the customer come in at 9.30, they are still welcome...correct?
Eventhough the food is ok, the waitress are never friendly. 13 years is along enough to make friend the familiar face. But no, they are never recognized us as their regular customer. My visit to Umezono is just tiny portion comparing to overall their business but it was our big event of our family to have great time there. Good Bye.

98 on Health inspection score
This restaurant received a Passing 98 on it's most recent health inspection on 8/9/2004 according to Cobb County. I have been to this restaurant many times and have always enjoyed great food. I usually get the lunch combo which comes with miso soup and a salad. It is more than enough and very well priced

Best Traditional Sushi in Metro Atlanta
This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in metro Atlanta. I have been eating here since they opened - probably ten or twelve years ago. I usually order a Chef's Choice Sushi Assortment, but have also enjoyed many other traditional dishes.

Umezono a no no in my book
On my last and final visit to this place, the waitress had me sit and wait while she sat 7 to ten tables ahead of me. I waited for 30 minutes before I decided to leave. When my husband returned, I told him we should go and the server said, "Thank you, have a nice day." I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The customer service is very poor.

Stay Away!
I've been going to Umezono for quite a while, and loved the food and the price; everything was right and I’ve even taken friends there to get them into sushi. On a Sunday in early 2003 a friend and I went there - we ordered a "take" and "matsu" combo as usual and where ready to enjoy our meal. Then we had to discover a tiny worm on one of the sushi. It was disgusting. The waitress claimed to have never seen something like that before and she couldn’t tell me what it was (If you work at a sushi restaurant, shouldn’t you know this stuff? Are they hiding something?). We where promised a free meal, but then they still brought us a check for the "take combo" and we had to remind them of what had happened and they finally gave us the entire meal for free. Well, I’m staying away for sushi for a while. I will definitely not eat sushi at Umezono again.

Great Homestyle Japanese Food
Umezono is often overlooked because it is not one of the usual haunts of local Japanese businessmen. Hidden in a tiny stripmall, unpretentious Umezono is usually crowded evenly with Japanese families and young people looking for a simple night out. Their menu is very extensive, and the sushi bar is excellent. However, this is homestyle Japanese food, not Oriental Fusion or an LA exotic sushi extreme experience. Be prepared for simple, inexpensive dishes at great prices. They offer tables, Japanese-style booths, and traditional tatami rooms for large parties. The place is small and busy, but still somehow cozy and comfortable.
