I wrote about Hometown Buffet on Saturday, April 28, 2007 2:18 PM:

In my experience, one the best restaurants for quality, value and variety in the greater Long Beach area is the Hometown Buffet at 290 E. 4th Street, Long Beach CA 562-435-4006

I am a fan of the Hometown Buffet brand, and they are always a great choice. However, I have found that there are usually one or two locations in each county that are a cut above all the others. This particular Hometown Buffet is the best one in

The service and attention to detail is terrific. They maintain a close eye to keep the buffet bars filled. The chicken is moist and juicy, the beef is flavorful and tender, and the fish is tender and flaky. The side dishes are all just as you would expect them to be.

The atmosphere at this location is open, airy, light, clean and very comfortable. The hosts are friendly & attentive. Everything is always clean & ready. A wide array of beverages are always included and your welcome to refill at will. In every visit, the staff has all been exemplary. They are friendly and quick to help from answering questions to making sure that you have whatever you may need.

Hometown Buffet already offered a great value with a large variety that pleases everyone, but they outdid themselves in 2006 by introducing Steakhouse menu items and now in 2007 they have added their “Three from the Sea” selections.

You can count on steak and shrimp entrees from Thursday to Saturday such as Peppercorn Steak, Garlic Mushroom Steak, Rotisserie-style Chicken, Peel & Eat Shrimp, Popcorn Shrimp and Butterfly Shrimp.

Also on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights try the “Three from the Sea” selections such as Butter Crumb Pollock, Shrimp and savory crab cakes. Of course, you can still help yourself to all your other buffet favorites, with beverages and desserts, all for one low price.

Here a few of their regular entree choices are their new lean Babyback ribs, Salmon, Pork Loin, Orange chicken, BBQ beef Ribs, Meatloaf, Carved ham, Pot Roast Carved Turkey,, Beef Brisket and Baked & Fried Chicken, Fried & Baked Whitefish.

There are plenty of side dishes, different varieties of rice, potato and Pasta dishes (including Mac n Cheese) and an assortment of vegetables such as Spinach Marie, Candied yams, green beans, Carrots and on....

The food is prepared in small batches throughout the day to maintain freshness, taste and quality.

They feature two salad bars, one is a make your own & the other has a variety of prepared salads such as Potato, Seafood, Carrot, Pasta & Caesar to name a few.

The soup bar usually has 2 choices for the soup of the day. A full range of condiments for your meal are ready & waiting.

At dinner, there is a carving bar in addition to the hot entree bars and the side dish bars.

And they offer numerous desserts from cakes, cobblers, cookies, puddings and including always having reduced sugar choices as well as fresh fruit and muffins.

The entire menu changes daily, but repeats on the same day of the week so you know when to go in for your personal favorites.

In my opinion, you will not find a greater value with the variety than you get at Hometown buffet.

Also keep them in mind for a terrific and very affordable Sunday Brunch buffet

In 2006, they brought us Steakhouse style selections and new shrimp dishes such as Peppercorn Steak, Garlic Mushroom Steak, Rotisserie-style Chicken, Peel & Eat Shrimp, Popcorn Shrimp and Butterfly Shrimp. And they introduced a new appetizer that I really enjoy; sweet Onion Petals. Now in 2007 they have added their “Three from the Sea” selections. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights you can enjoy Butter Crumb Alaska Pollock, Orange Shrimp and savory crab cakes. I have found the “Three from the Sea” menu items to be superior. The Pollock has a perfect balance of flavors and texture, The Orange Shrimp is both sweet and tangy, dances on my tongue, and the crab cakes are delightful. My personal favorite location in Southern Orange County is the Hometown Buffet at 24381 El Toro Rd in Laguna Woods (Formerly Laguna Hills) 949.595.0971. Joseph Davis, the proprietor, pays attention to all the details. The chicken is cooked perfectly. The meat dishes are tender and flavorful. Everything from entrees, to salads, to the side dishes as well as the desserts are fresh and kept filled under the watchful eye of both Joseph Davis and Carlos. The hosts often walk the floor, greeting the customers and making sure that everyone is satisfied. The atmosphere at this location is open, airy, light, clean and very comfortable. The hosts and staff are all friendly & attentive. Everything is always clean & ready All of their regular entree choices are still there as well, such as; Salmon, Pork Loin, Orange chicken, BBQ beef Ribs, Meatloaf, Carved ham, Pot Roast Carved Turkey,, Beef Brisket and Baked & Fried Chicken, Fried & Baked Whitefish At dinner, there is a carving bar in addition to the hot entree bars. Hometown Buffets prepare the food in small batches consistently throughout the day to maintain freshness, taste and quality. The entire menu changes daily, but repeats on the same day of the week so you know when to go in for your personal favorites. Last, but not least; two reminders; 1) They have gift cards available and with all the choices they offer, you can’t go wrong giving a Hometown Gift Card. 2) They are also a great choice for Sunday Brunch buffet as well as Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Birthdays and any special events.
