Awesome, authentic Sichuan in Brookline!
This gem in Brookline Village is worth the trip - while the decor of the restaurant is spare, it's nice, usually with classical music in the background (the owner/manager is an opera singer). The people there are very friendly, and the food is to die for. Authentic flavors come from spices they bring over from China, and all their ma/la dishes are fabulous. Try the braised beef with napa cabbage (shuizhu niurou) or the Ma Po Tofu for spice and taste. Soups and appetizers are wonderful; for a lighter meal try their beef noodles soup! If you are not into spice, Sichuan Garden does have milder dishes on the menu. While their sweet and sour dishes tend to be cloyingly sweet, all other dishes we have tried have been terrific. Try a "filet mignon with..." dish for a real treat at an absurdly low price! Sichuan Garden is easily accessible, has a full bar, and accepts credit cards
Recommended: Ma Po Tofu, Braised Beef, Cellophane noodles with minced pork, any beef filet dish!
