Defined Mexican food for me
Sal's was the first place I ate when I moved to California in 1985 and defined Mexican food for me. I was greeted at the door by Sal himself and began to discover authentic Mexican food instead of the chain restaurant fare. Sal has passed on, but I still give it a very high recommendation. ..and remember...Plate is hot!
Recommended: Barbacoa de Res Dinner, Gorditas Barbacoa, Nachos

This used to be so much better
This was the great restaurant until Sal died. Since then the it's overpriced and under quality. The only bright spot are the waitresses, most of who have been there decades.
Recommended: Burrito dinner enchilada style.
