Mimi has left the building. She packed up her amazing little hotspot a wee while ago and I'm Jonesning for my "Indecisive Breakfast". Basically I just told her to make me anything that it critter-free and she'd go to town filling a plate.

Most people felt it was a home away from home. But...yeah...she wasn't always sweet to first time customers. Like an ornery aunt with tough love, when she got really busy (which was almost all of the time) she would put some rules in place.
In Manhattan, this kind of service happens all the time and tourists think it's cool.

Rush, Cowboy Junkies, Elvez, Blue Rodeo...almost everytime I went there she was feeding musicians. I met many up and coming bands there as well, and I can't count how many times I would bring her one of my recordings to play in her restaurant and she'd refuse to let me pay for brekkie.

Man, I'm gonna miss that place!

she's rude, she's crude, she's more like a mean dude, she's leud, she's having a feud, she's never in the mood, she's never nude(tank's god), she can't be woo'd, her food can be chewed, there's no stew!, ca-chew!(I just caught a cold), she makes food.

she's barely cop'in, her musical customers are dop'in, she never plays Chopin, her prices are fair so i'll throw her a token, food looks clean so her licence won't be revoken, she's not well spoken, no dish has been broken, she's rarely open and i'm not jok'in

I read a few positive reviews of Mimi's on Bathurst Street. A friend and me decided to try it out before attending a nearby arts festival. We walked past it a few times and finally found it, tucked away beside a steam bath. We walked through the door and instead of being greated, a woman behind the counter screamed at us to get out! She chastised us for not letting people leave the restaurant before entering. Of course, having not been there before, we were unaware of how small and cramped the place was. We promptly hurried outside where we waited (for the privilege?) of being let in. A few moments later, a young couple showed up and stepped in front of us and took a table. I went in to remind the woman behind the counter that we were here first and were waiting outside as ordered. Without looking up, she said "I didn't see anything". By this thime I was angry at the outrageous behaviour and as I left the place, told her that although I have heard that the food is wonderful, no food can compensate for horrible service and bad attitude. Finally looking at me, she spitefully blew me a kiss. I would rather go to a restaurant with mediocore food and good service, than to a place such as Mimi's. If you are looking for a great breakfast, served up with bad attitude and abuse, then this is the place for you!

Soothing Breakfast
Let me put it this way - after moving from T.O., some of the best memories of being with my honey during tired, maybe weary mornings are having Mexican omelets and a cafe au lait at this fabulously warm breakfast place! #1 on my list for breatfast in T.O. Ciao.

Hmmm, Great Breakfast
Just had the best breakfast ever, at a neat little cafe tucked in the corner of the oak leaf steam baths. The thick challah French toast and bacon, with butter and maple syrup was simply delicious. The coffee was hot and the ambience is very musical. I'll be back for a great looking Mexican omelette soon!
