Cuba comes to Pasadena
We had a perfect night at Madre. First off the place looks great. It's a romantic haven in the middle of Pasadena. It has shabby chic couches and furniture, light candles and roses everywhere. Elegant chandieliers and hand-picked vintage china. This is Jennifer Lopez's jewel restaurant and you can tell the love she has for it and it shows in every detail. First off they serve the BEST mojito in the states. I have had mojitos in Cuba and this is indeed the real deal. They are not sweet and syrupy like so many places here in the states. I had the Cuban flank steak and it was out of this world. DELCIOUS! Save room for dessert - it's flawless here. The service was perfect. Our waiter (Leo) could not have been sweeter and made sure everything was perfect. After dinner we danced and listened to Cuban music in the bar. The band was great. I can't wait to a return visit!

burnt beans
Have you ever had dinner at Versaille's? If you have...skip Madre's. It was a big disappointment for my entire family. The service was not bad, but not good either. The black beans were burnt...it was gross. Try the empanadas and have a cup of coffe if going there is a must for you. If you just want good Cuban food, make it at home or go to Versaille's.

Could have been great :(
Food was great, setting was perfect, service was uneven...the bus boys were very attentive, the waitress was inconsistent. What could have been a great experience was marred by the waitress. I had already paid for a birthday dinner party that had about 12 people. I assumed that the 18% gratuity was already charged (as is the case in any other restaurant), I decided to further tip the waitress an additional $45. We sat around talking for at least another half hour. As we were getting our car(s), the waitress chased us down and said we owed her an additional gratuity fee. I had paid for the bill with cash and credit card. The waitress said she could not take a credit card to pay for the adddional amount that SHE had not put on the receipt. I had to ask my guests if they had any money to come up for the difference. The point is when the check came the first time why wasn't the correct amount on it? We were at our table for at least another half hour, why did the waitress wait until we were outside to bring this up? It was very embarrassing to ask people if they had any cash since the waitress would not take a credit card to pay for the balance. Up until that moment, I had glowing reviews of Madre's. If and when one decides to have a party of people over at Madre's, check the receipt and ask about the gratuity. Save yourself the embarrassment.

The best Latin food In Los Angeles
The food quality and service was out of this world, friendly, professional and knowledgeable service. The ambiance and decor was warm and cozy with entertainment from a trio called Casablanca who played beatiful Latin music and songs. The evening at Madre's was a wonderful experience full of excellence.
Recommended: Ceviche and Empanadas for appetizers. The Roba Encendido and the Bistec de Filete were of best quality, and the tres leche and Flan Cubano for dessert.
