Glorious Food from revival of Cold Roast Boston
Lydia Shire's latest culinary success may exceed her others. She has taken the staid and stuffy Locke Ober's to glorious culinary heights. The atmosphere and service rival other premier restaurants in city and the charm of the old mahongany wood gives a glow that screams "high standard". The food combines the familiar with clever innovative twists. A stroganoff for example featured a few large pieces of fabulous tenderlion with an exquisite sauce and large beet flavored noodles. A foie gras appetizer combined vegtables, beans and meat flavors in an unusual fashion to provide a gastromomic hit. One word of caution, a widespread complaint heard from several different friends who love fine food, has been the heavy use of salt at Locke Ober's. At our table this was an issue with one of the entrees. Hopefully the kitchen is beginning to cut back a bit. For the unfamiliar, the OLD Locke Ober's was the last public restaurant in Boston to exclude women from the main dining room. Cold roast Boston's nod to OK food is officially closed. The NEW Locke Ober's finally opened its doors to the modern world, and now it reaches new heights as a destination restaurant.

New owner
Restaurant is now owned by Biba owner/chef Lydia Shire. Initial newspaper reviews have been mixed but apparantly the public loves the new operation. Don't believe ties are still required. Have not tried the food yet so rating is based on our experience at Biba.
