We just tried fondue for the first time and went to la fonue for my daughters 20th birthday. Boy were we disappointed. The cheese was not good, we didn't even eat the cheese part. The salad was ok. The meat was ok. The dessert had a little variety and we did get 1 marshmellow each. The thing, they did not even tell us that the fruit was unlimited. We had a party of 5 and they only brought out 2 plates of fruit, everyone got there own plate of the main course. They should have told us that the fruit was unlimited as it was not enough for 5 people. Then, we left a cash tip, but when we looked at our bank statement, they also charged a 20% gratuity. There was no where written that a gratuity would be added, especially after we left a cash tip. I called the restaurant and they said that our bank is adding the gratuity, its amazing how we all have different banks and all our banks are doing the same thing. As I told them, I worked for a bank for over 10 years, they do not add a gratuity to bills, they only charge what the company puts through. I am currently a GM of a restaurant and I know as well, that gratuity is optional. We all had the meal that was $38 per person and were not happy at all. None of us would recommend La Fondue to anyone. People have told us to go to the melting pot, but after this experience we are hesitant.

If I had not eaten at the Melting Pot prior to this place, I would have thought this restaurant would be decent for fondue.  However, I was spoiled by starting out with The Melting Pot...then going to La Fondue Bourguigonne...it was a downgrade in every aspect if you ask me.  But...if you have never eaten fondue before, try this place first...then go to The Melting Pot =)  You'll notice a remarkable improvement in the quality of the food by the time you try The Melting Pot.

Here's the comparison:
At The Melting Pot, each person gets their own set of colored skewers, so it's easy to tell who is cooking what.  They have 4 cheese fondue selections to choose from.  When the cheese fondue arrives, it comes with several items to dip with: vegetables, apples, fresh bread, (nachos by request only)...The cheese fondue is cooked in a metal pot.  I've tried a couple of different cheese fondues and they were all delicious.  Once you are finished with the cheese fondue, you get a choice of one of 3 different types of salads.  Their salads are pretty good. My favorite is the California Salad. Next..the entree.  They have 4 different cooking styles to choose from.  There is a large selection of different entree items to choose from, from steak, to seafood, vegetarian, to chicken.  Each entree comes with an unlimited serving of vegetables.  They also have about 5 dipping sauces to dip your food in.  If you feel like dessert, which I ALWAYS have to have, they give you a small metal pot just for melting the fondue chocolate to dip your brownies, strawberries, bananas, pinapples, marshmellows, and cheesecake in. It is a pleasant dining experience with nice ambiance. It costs around $50 a person each time I go.

At La Fondue Bourguignonne, it feels like you are dining at a small mom-and-pop restaurant, so you get that "feels like family" vibe, which isn't too bad.  However, you don't get the nice colorful skewers.  Everyone has the same color so you have to remember where you stuck your skewer. The menu isn't very big at all.  In fact, you have to order the same thing as everyone else.  The only decision you get to make is what you want as your entree (Do you want chicken? Steak? Shrimp?).  When the cheese fondue arrives, it doesn't come in a metal pot.  They bring you a candle and the cheese in a separate bowl and they put the bowl on top of the candle for the candle to heat up the cheese.  Looks old fashioned...you only get one choice of cheese (which wasn't very good) and bread.  That's it.  What happened to all the other things to dip with? Then you get one small side salad, which I didn't care too much for.  The entree was ok, but that's all I'll say about the entree.  Now for the most important part of the meal...the dessert.  I was VERY DISAPPOINTED with their dessert. I had to cook the dessert in a bowl over a candle as well.  There was no metal pot.  Their dessert only had fruit and a couple marshmellows - and it wasn't even the good kind of fruit.  They had apples, honeydew, cantelope, and other generic fruits.  The chocolate didn't even stick to most of the fruits...the chocolate kept sliding off. There was no cheesecake, no brownies, no bananas, no strawberries.  The price is about $50 a person and there was no variety.

For approximately the same price, I'd rather eat at The Melting Pot because they have a larger menu, nicer ambiance, and better tasting food.
