Restaurant - Japanese, Sushi

Hearthy, cheap/medium priced, fresh sushi and a variety of other Japanese dishes. Medium sized restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. A long waiting queue during the dinner hours, very good seating during lunch. Takeout is quick even during the busiest hours.

Cheap, fun and fresh, fresh, fresh!
This is the most popular sushi stakeout in the Inner Richmond area due to the great, simple, fresh sushi, fantastic teriyaki and low prices (the $15-$30 dinner price range is there only because the food is so good, you end up eating *a lot*... in a more civilized setting , I was able to feed 4 people for $35...). If you are in the market for exotic or very spicy sushi though, you might want to go elsewhere... Kitaro excells in simple, satisfying dishes. Portions are decent, fish is exceptionally fresh, and the teriyaki (beef, chicken and salmon) out of this world. The wait can be up to 20 minutes or so during the busy times, but despite the bustle, noise level is acceptable (if you like talking with your dinnermates, you'll have no problems, except for the mouth full of delicious food). Food is served quickly, efficiently and with a smile, and one doesn't feel pressured to eat-and-run, though the casual atmosphere doesn't encourage long, romantic interludes.
