A group of us were there for a birthday dinner. The food was good, I guess... I liked my prime rib but another one of us who ordered the same thounght that her prime rib was too salty. We asked for breads when we were waiting for the food. When the bill came, there were two suprises: We had to PAY for the breads!!! (without butter) and a 18% tips had already been hand written down on our bill (some of us felt the service was not up to the level.) I had been to Smitty's, and I have to agree with "ev" too that Smitty's has much better service. By the way, I also got better service from Sizzler.

Good steaks.  Too bad there's a long wait.

Their knife and fork ribs and salad is to die for.  I just hate the long wait.

Take a Number, Wait in Line
Decent food, with a solid line-up of chops, steaks and salads. Good bar area as well. What really makes Houston's an experience, however, is trying to get in the door! They don't take reservations, so expect a healthy wait. On my last visit, it took over two hours to get a table on a Friday night. Not worth it if you have to stand in that long a line.

great steak at an affordable price...
whao, I was very impressed by their steaks. My friends and I ordered the filet mignon, hawaiian rib eye, and the Prime Rib. Being a diehard fan of Filet Mignon, I actually prefered their Prime Ribs. Much better than San Francisco's House of Prime Rib while the other steaks are similiarly fabulous. I tried Ruth's Chris in Palm Desert once and it was too much of a eyebrow raiser. Once again, I don't have the critical expectation of a food-taster but I am very satisfied by the quality of the food and the resturant's atmosphere; the service was so-so though, but maybe because we look like kids to them. We ordered a Spinach Dip (ok), a beer, 2 lemonade, the 3 steak and the total after tip was 120 bucks. Fair Deal.

A solid choice for a casual steak dinner
Houston's provides a solid choice for a casual steakhouse dinner. The interior is dark, but the atmosphere is never formal or stuffy. You will wait to be seated thanks to a no-reservations policy, but Houton's food has never disappointed. No, this isn't on the level of the Arroyo Chop House (Pasadena's best steak), but for the money, Houston's is a good choice for mid-priced steak dinner.
