Bad Economy Claims another hostage......

Too bad there isn't a negative star for this place. I have been born and raised in Glendora, and the Golden Spur was part of my family's life for the longest time. I honestly do not know what has happened ... my husband and I decided to try them again (hoping it was better than last time) - and they didn't disappoint me......everything was AWFUL!
My steak sandwich had rancid meat - the smell was so bad, I could tell it was off even before the server put the plate down. The coleslaw was horrid! On top of the absolutely worst tasting food that had to be taken back and I didn't get anything else, we get the bill. Thankfully they were wise enough not to charge us for the steak I had, but I guess this economy must really be getting to them. I have never in my life seen a place charge for bread before a meal. $2.50 for four pieces of harden stale toast! My husband's martini comes in a size of glass that looked like a NyQuil Cup! Unbelievable! I will never go back to that rat hole again.

I like the Spur.  However if your not with a regular ,you wont get the best service.  I have been going forever.  In regards to the food, I have not had a bad meal there.  Frog legs are excellent!  I think with the Spur, it has been around for so long that the old timers with $ are there prime VIP.   If you dont go with someone they know personally or look to young...well lets just say you dont get taken care of or noticed....as well as you should.    I love it there but I dont expect great service all the time.

My experience at the spur has for the most part been very good. There has been a few times in the past 10 years that we had to wait even with a reservation. I find that its typical with most places during a busy night. It is pretty obviouse when its going to happen too. I can look across the room and see people finished eating but still sitting and talking sometimes up to an hour after they are finished. We usually go to the bar and have drinks and an appitizer while we wait. The comment about the male bartender is pretty right on. I think he rather talk and watch the tube than get busy. Its a shame because he makes incredible martini's. As for the food its always been great.

My husband and I and two close friends dined at the Golden Spur on Saturday evening, December 9, 2006. Our reservation was for 7:00 pm, and we did not sit down to eat until 8:30 PM. The bartender (male) that night was rude and very discourteous to us. The food was not up to the usual Spur quality......after not eating at the Golden Spur for about a year, our overall experience was very negative. We were very disappointed. The best advice I could give is, "get rid of the bartender"!!!! Hopefully, if we decide to go again to the Spur, our experience will be a better one........we will try one more time.

The Spur has the old hollywood charm that is hard to find now days. The stuff filet with the wine sauce is the best, but there is so much more. The salad dressings are all hand made from fresh ingredients as well as the soups. They are among the few places to go for escargo and frog legs. And for a price you can even get abalone. With all the wonderful food you would think they would have a better salad mix, but the food more than makes up for it. I have been a customer for over 25 years and have never had a bad meal.

Had a great dinne, lovely atmosphere. BUT the should use Romaine instead of Iceberg lettuce for their salads. Everything else was perfect.

BEST CALAMARE ON EARTH
Prepared with a very light batter over large tender pancake size servings, sprinkled with almonds. Tastes like abalone.

Best Steak Anywhere
The food here is excellent all-around, but their steaks are something else. I've eaten just a few steaks in my time, and the filet mignon at The 'Spur is the best I know of anywhere. They serve one that is just bacon-wrapped, or you can get one stuffed with cheese & herbs and covered with a delicious wine sauce (highly recommended). Their seafood is nothing to sneeze at either. The service is usually very good, although they do have 1 or 2 not-so-good waitresses. Even if you get one of the not-so-good ones, in the end you won't care because the food is so superb. All in all an outstanding restaurant

1st Visit
My first visit after 6 years of working in Glendora was a mixed experience. The Spur Top Sirloin was a huge flavorable steak, cooked exactly as ordered. The service was excellent...attentative & friendly but unobtrusive. The senior-aged hostess never cracked a smile and was unwelcoming. They really need to put up a sign requesting cell phones be turned to vibrate or OFF. Two different tables close to me kept receiving phone calls, and were speaking in loud voices that could be heard across the room.

Golden Spur
My colleagues and I usually eat at the Golden Spur for lunch. I'm not crazy about fish, but I always order it there. The fresh fish is wonderful and they'll prepare it grilled, blackened or any way you like it. The portions are large and well worth the money.

Golden Spur is Worth a Reservation
Don't expect to definitely get a table on a weekend evening unless you have a reservation. Once we got in, once we didn't. Menu board is brought to your table with many choices.
