Nestled amongst world-class shopping and art galleries, the restaurant covers three stories, each boasting views of the sparkling La Jolla Cove. George's is a perennial "People's Choice' award-winner, and it well deserves the honors. George's is always listed among the upper tier of restaurants in San Diego County, and its food preparation, ambiance, and view are unsurpassed. Both the dinner menu and the just-updated lunch menu offer a wide variety of both choices ranging from the interesting and unusual to more commonly-found items. The preparation of these dishes is far from common, however. Each dish is meticulously prepared and served in an attractive presentation. Special requests in the preparation pose no problems for the staff. The restaurant itself is elegant and refined. The view, however, is far from refined; it is stunning. La Jolla Cove is right outside the large windows, and the Pacific ocean stretches out forever. A dinner at sunset is worth it for the view alone. Although the restaurant is world-class, the staff is very friendly and makes visitors feel right at home. Without being pushy, these knowledgeable people make the meal an enjoyable, group effort. Always ready, but never hovering, they offer first-rate service. George's is also reasonably priced for the food and service provided. While not inexpensive, it offers a far better value than other restaurants considered in the same strata. A recent dinner for four to include appetizers, main courses, desserts, and wine cost me about $160. Two days earlier, a similar dinner, but for two, at another notable San Diego restaurant cost me $195. Not only was George's less expensive, but the meal and service were far better.
