I have a small crafting business that I run on my own. I am thinking about hiring someone to give me a hand and eventually take on at least one other person and get myself to the point that I just own the business rather than actually work it. Do you guys think that this is a good idea?

Well having seen my family run a business for years I can say that it is a bad idea to let anyone else run your business. They do not have the passion or the need to succeed and thus really don't care all that much about your business or your customers. I think that it is important to stay involved, it is okay to hire help but you will still need to check in and be active.

I agree with worldtraveler that it is never smart to let your business completly out of your sight. You are the one that depends on your business for financial reasons so you are the one that will care the most and will want to make sure that your customers are happy with your products and services.

I think that sometimes as long as you get the right people to help you out that you would be fine leaving the shop in their hands. I would suggest that you look for people that are known as being responsible such as older people or stay at home parents that are looking for some extra hours.
