In the fifties I used to go to a tiny restaurant on Belmont in Bellflower netxt
to the Western Union. It had great food and was owned by someone named
Eli. Is it still around? I believe it was called the Cherokee. Great hot roast
beef sandwiches, chilisizes and strawberry pie to die for.
No! Sadly, the Cherokee has been gone for a number of years. Before it went out of business it moved to the corner of Bellflower Blvd. and Laurel. Remember the cartoon sketches of the famous Bellflower people? They were still there. Now, the restaurant is a Johnny Reb's. The food is excellent and the portions are generous. Expect to take some home with you. There's also a Johnny Reb's in Orange, but the service is better and the servers are much friendlier in Bellflower. It's almost as though you're in the Bellflower of long ago.
