Most Horrid Experience Dining Out
After the sushi chef made my sashimi, I realized they did NOT have REGULAR soy sauce, only the low sodium, and it was awful. I gave my plate back to the already cocky sushi chef, and he said he's have to charge me for the plate.I said, "NO, but only for the 2 pieces I tried." He said OK. Then he jokingly tried to pretend he was drinking from the sesame seed dispenser instead of his coke, and I choked...NOT FUNNY, and ended in the bathroom coughing my head off. I told the manager and he was obnoxious. No one came back after that...the chef thought we said make something else and we didn't order it. We finally got the check, and it was wrong. My date went to pick up the car, and I tried to get anyone's attention, but nothing. So, I went to the fron desk and complained, just as the manager roared up and screamed, "What's your problem now?" I told him and he said, "Get the f*** out of my restaurant. Can you believe the rest went DOWNHILL from there? I got a $35.00 refund from Hyatt who owns the restaurant on a $85 bill. I used to go there a lot....but now they make me sick thinking of the b.s.. they did to me. Go ANYWHERE else.

Slow Service.
This review is rather belated on my part. We visited Japengo sometime on July of 2003 and stayed at the Hyatt Regency Aventine for 4 days. My family and I decided to checkout Japengo around the evening. The staff was nice, but the service was extremely slow. Another group of about 4 individuals who were there before us complained about the slow service. My wife and I also complained about the slowed service to the night shift manager, but he made excuses but he was also being diplomatic about it at the same time. We left the restaurant leaving only a 10 percent tip. Upon arrival to the Hyatt my wife and I were surprised that he wanted to give us a refund of 25 percent for the inconvenience his restaurant have caused us. We declined his refund, and I told the Japengo manager that he could save that money that he wanted to offer us, and just save it for the restaurant's training course.

Sushi Meat Market
Looking for the best sushi and the best singles scene in North County? Cafe Japengo is the place. Excitement is the key word here. The attentive and helpful staff (for sushi beginners), the comfortable yet elegant decor, and the world class sushi make Cafe Japengo the place to see and be seen. Insider's secret: Order the "Tootsie Roll" and the "Dynamite", two items not on the regular sushi menu. Both are impressive creations to die for. Late nite, especially Thursdays and Fridays, the singles scene is in full swing, with both the high tech and financial crowd packing both the bar and the restaurant
