The Balboa Saloon is the best "pub" in California. I am from England and even though this the Saloon by no means tries to emulate an English pub it is the same thing in the American vein because it is a local, where folks come every day to share their tales of the day and the weekend and they welcome outsiders. It is open, free minded, and a rarity these days.
Recommended: the pickled eggs are mind blowing
