worst service ever!!!!
I have eaten at alligator stump 4 times in the past 2 years; never again! The lady that served us was the rudest lady I have ever seen wait in 30 years...I asked for a beer and finished it within five minutes, before the food, and I was never asked if I wanted another, even left the empty cup at the side of the table... The food was from the lunch menu, never was I asked if I wanted any more bread or water, which was very badly needed, the spicy food was used to mask the horrible taste...she was a rudest lady in all of her comments and it was not even busy!! there was one other table of guests...she happened to make a few comments about when lunch is served and when dinner is served, funny, cuz I wanted dinner!!! ha ha ha. I left my empty water glass at the end of the table and there it stayed until she brought the bill, with a pitcher of water once my friend also put empty soda and water glass...four empty glasses and we were sweating that horrible food through our pores...worst dining experience ever...guess since the events center went up, they think they can abuse customers now...even made light of the rude service and am still angry...just plain rude people.

Over rated!!!
Visited Alligator Soul because of many of the great reviews and because it was on Zaggat's list. The atmosphere was at best above being at a regular diner, and paper napkins for such a highly rated eatery! The service was reasonable. I ordered the ribs and my wife the crab stuffed steak. The ribs were not at all tender; probably the result of being reheated...several times. The steak was ordered medium rare, but arrived medium well. There was at most a spoonful of crab stuffing. The steak was surrounded by what could best be described as strangely fried potatoes that had the appearance and consistency of styrofoam. The green beans were done well as were the baked beans with the ribs. Rather than playing the spicy off an accompanying dirty rice, the whole experience was one of having ones taste buds literally assaulted with overwhelming spicy heat! We shared the touted Bourbon Bread pudding desert. Rather than the expected light and fluffy affair, what came to the table was a dish holding a thick clumped together mass set on a puddle of sweet sauce. We had trouble just digging a spoonful out of the presentation. Sorry...but considering the atmosphere, quality and price...Alligator Soul rates at best a 4 out of 10.

Great food, loud music
We love the food at Alligator Soul and used to drive all the way from Seattle to eat there. Unfortunately, the music on Friday and Saturday in this very small restaurant is SO LOUD that you can't hear a word anyone is saying at your table. We can't go there when we want to get together with friends we'd actually like to talk with! Expect great food, but if you want to hear anything, stick to weeknights.

always worth the drive
Great food and since I was a regular there they insisted that my birthday dinner was on the house.....Great food and tasty beer, they were one of the first to have Mac & Jacks beer. Try it with any of the spicy dishes mmmmm mmmmm damn thats good... I feel sorry for my vegetarian girlfriend as they have almost nothing for her there. Maybe this will be the spark that lights the flame...How 'bout some veggy dishes 'eh? Hilbo?
Recommended: chicken, corn bread and the best damn ribs ever!

hot and spicy
This food is spicy the way I like it. I eat there all the time and would guess it rivals any in the South. I usually get the shrimp Creole. But I recommend the ribs for those who love red meat. Music is on Fri. and Sat. and can get pretty loud (great music though). I feed my son before because the menu isn't the most kid friendly. They will make some items in a smaller version and that isn't listed.

Down Home Funk
Been going to Alligator Soul ever since it opened. Probably going on 10 yrs now. Except for a short stint while Hilbo attempted to run this and Hilbo's in Greenlake, the place has NEVER disappointed me or any of my guests. Only two lil bitty problems...the volume of the great tunes on Fri/Sat nights could be turned down a bit. If you make reservations, request window seating as that's farthest from the band. And except for beers, they have a very limited bar. No club soda even. Who would drink wine with cajun food?

LES AND MS. KEYS BURN IT UP!
I went here for the second time last weekend with dear friends. Les the drummer had some of his oh so talented students playing that night as a substitute for himself. Twice during the night all four of the drummers played all at once. The energy was so intense from the amazing beat and rhythm of the jazz that one could not help themselves to swaying and clapping to the eight hands playing the drums. Ms. Keys (her stage name)is a marine biologist with a velvet voice. The food was immaculate and the atmosphere like the deep south, lively, bright, close knit and home. My favorite restaurant of all time. A little expensive if you're on a student's budget but more than worth it! BE SURE TO MAKE RESERVATIONS!!!

FANTASTIC
This was our first time visiting the Alligator Soul. We were very impressed with the atmosphere, the service, and the food. My husband enjoys spicy but this got him so overheated he could not finish his meal. I had the alligator pie, very rich and delicious.;)

Flies in your soup?
We love Alligator Soul, but on Friday, August 23, 2002, we went to dinner with out of town guests to treat them to a great dinner. One of our guests ordered the Shrimp Creole, which was wonderful until she found a fly in it. She made light of the situation to the waitress, but when the bill came we were not compensated in any way. When I called to talk to managment the next day about the situation, I was told that yesterday is yesterday and that it was too bad. I would have confronted the situation at the time of the bill but didn't want to make a scene around other diners. When I called I asked for Hiobo and was told he was busy so I asked to talk to the manager; the person on the phone said she was the manager and also was our waitress. I think this is very poor customer service, and although I love the restaurant, the music, and the atmosphere, I am totally appalled at the service; and not only that, we left her a nice tip.

Crunchy Chicken Gumbo
As many times as I have been there, I always have a battle with my better judgement in trying anything else on the menu. This dish is stupendous. Begin with the fiery shrimp appetizer but beware, not for the feint of tastebud.
