My husband and I love that this restaurant focuses on quality, not quantity. Not that you don't get enough food, but so many places figure if you get a lot, you won't mind how bad it is. This also allows you the room to have an appetizer and a dessert! The hostess has always been very friendly. We love the wine selection and the desserts. I recommend a flamed rasberry dessert which is very simple, but filled with flavor.

Excellent food excellent service
I have been to 302 West 4 times in the last year. Each time my wife and I tried a different dish and each time we were extremely happy with the results. The upstairs bar is a very relaxed environment, with great service. The bartender was willing to do a little extra work to make the drinks just right, and with no complaints. In the dining area we have had three different waiters, all of whom were responsive, knowledgeable of the individual questions we asked regarding how the dishes were prepared, and most importantly accurate. Worth the trip and the price.

shaky start......excellent finish
My wife and I tried 302 West on our anniversary. We were a bit turned off when we first entered the restauraunt via the entrance on Main St. It appeared at first glance that we had wandered into a private party. No Mai tre d' to be seen. Then after a few akward moments were asked for our name and told to hang our coats. Two minutes later the same woman came up to us again and asked for our name...again. After apologizing for the mistake..she directed us across the restauraunt to the upstairs bar to wait. About 10 minutes later we were seated on the main floor. Our waiter was excellent...very helpful...the service from here on out was quite good. The selection of entrees was interesting. Very unique. My wife tried the buffalo rib-eye with cheesy pasta. I had the beef tenderloin, served in a pepper reduction sauce with au-gratin potato and asparagus. The food was very good. Great wine selection...maybe a bit expensive by the glass..but very extensive. The dessert menu was fabulous. We shared a chocolate ice cream cake that was divine...and very large. Final analysis....definitely worth a try!

Details, Details
While 302 West gets high marks for ambiance and service, they should shift their attention to the food detail. My first glass of wine contained an extra detail I hadn't ordered - some lipstick on the rim. Minor? Perhaps, until we found the same lack of clean on the water glasses. I order the NY Strip which after I ordered I realized that the waiter hadn't asked me how I wanted it cooked. As I'm open to most levels of doneness, I decided to try it the way it was served. Fortunately, it came about medium rare. Hoping that this was done to maintain the quality of the meat, I dug in. My hopes were dashed as I found I needed to wrestle the meat to cut through it. Not a stellar quality piece of beef. Sad. The sauce was very good and brought out what taste the meat contained. The garlic mashed potatoes contained just the right amount of garlic. My dinner companions salmon was also uninspired. As expected, the portions left us room for the extensive desert menu. We scanned the menus on the way in and saw that the dessert side contained almost 20 selections. These did not disappoint although our waiter, when asked what he suggested, said that he doesn't eat deserts. So I went for the malted milk chocolate cake with chocolate and vanilla sauces. My companion choose the banana pie. Both were exceptional, and also in manageable portions. I'll chalk up the lackluster quality as an off night and will certainly give 302 West another opportunity. Hopefully they'll have mastered the rest of the environment and will have shifted their attention to the main course.
